Totally Game: Unmasking Watch Dogs' Wrench

In the latest episode of Totally Game, Future's documentary series, Watch Dogs voice actor Shawn Baichoo talks about his career and his favourite role, eccentric hacker Wrench.

"Wrench is so organically tied to who I am," he said. "He's part of my soul. His personality is a lot like me, but I have a better sense of reading the room and not pissing off people so much. Wrench doesn't care about upsetting authority."

Baichoo has worked on various Ubisoft games, with voice performances, motion capture and stunts, and he also put together and mocapped Adam Jensen's takedowns in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

Wrench first appeared in a demo after Baichoo voiced some minor characters, but at the time he didn't know if Wrench was going to be part of the main game. Ubisoft decided to keep him around, however, making him one of the main hacker vigilantes.

The actor also feels connected to the character through his relationship with anxiety and depression, adding that "I was bullied as a kid and I thought Wrench was a good way of expressing my relationship to those things."

Wrench ended up being one of Watch Dogs 2's most memorable characters, and he's coming back for Watch Dogs Legion, too.

"Watch Dogs: Legion takes place several years after Watch Dogs 2, so Wrench is older, he's wiser, he's a different person now," Baichoo said. "But I think all the things people connect to are still there."

He'll be making his return in the Bloodline DLC in 2021.
